Fungoriam Alachimiam

A fungoriam is a collection of preserved fungal specimens, serving as a resource for scientific study and research, similar to an herbarium for plants.

Fungoriam Alchimiam is a long-explored dream, pitched in the night, fermented in the sunshine. Wild and free, this vessel, converting sugar into gas into fuel to keep an internal flame burning.

Through all of our journeys, coast to coast, north to south. Through deserts and mountains, always our fungal companions drying odorously on sunlight dashboards. A pacific coast motel room, bent over a stovetop, pictures, notes, spores, tissue. Carefully collected, catalogued and stored against times deterioration.  Packaged and shipped to some clandestine lab, tucked into some nameless city we move through in service to our work. A lonely coffee shop, breakfast in a greasy diner, single terminal airport we rise above the mountains and descend again into the city's deep night. Noiseless and eerie, high rise hotel room, lights always burning. Only enough time to unpack and put on a new costume, one that matches our new environment. Blending in is the name of the game. Another city dweller are we, too busy to look up, noise cancelling headphones, dark sunglasses and a hat pulled down tight to our eyebrows. We gaze through the brim, look over our shoulder and enter our fungal sanctuary. Through steel doors, three locks and a sturdy kick, close behind us the vultures always watching, circling. Check the cameras, grab our packages and the village greets us, and we tuck in to our vessel.

We distill and purify and push and pull. Another rise and fall, another birth and death. Everywhere present the always turning wheel of existence. Our greatest teacher, my forever mentor, the haploid, diploid, hyphae, mycelium, the primordial knot, pin, the holy fruiting body. Holding ancient wisdom, from before all time, ready to share as much as we can open ourselves to. 

I struggle to say I in this, though this is my journey, my story. I'm still wandering these paths, I'm still in the depths of these chapters, leaves of grass, I'm still writing. 

Fungoriam Alchimiam is my dream, is my work, is my life. To teach what the mushrooms have taught me. To learn as the continue to teach. Fungi gave me my freedom and that's why I'm here, is because i feel that i owe them my entire life. Everything i have left in this cycle of my existence. So, I travel, and I dry, and I collect, and I cultivate, and I tell my story, and this will be where I share my work and tell my story. Because I believe this work is important and I believe my story to be unique, and maybe we can learn from each other and propagate the mycelial web of human connection.
